I Am Loyal To Obaseki But I Still Want To Be Edo State Governor – Philip Shaibu

Despite the schism between them, Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu has pledged his commitment to his superior, Godwin Obaseki, The PUNCH reports. He did, however, point out that his desire to become governor of Edo state has nothing to do with loyalty. Shaibu addressed the governor as his elder brother during his speech at the 32nd anniversary of Edo State on Sunday at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City, Edo State.

This comes after weeks of squabbles between the governor and his deputy. The deputy had gone to a Federal High Court in Abuja and secured an injunction to prevent the governor and the state assembly from plotting impeachment against him. Obaseki, on his part, was stunned by his deputy’s actions and accused him of preparing a coup against him.

Shaibu stated: “My loyalty to the governor remains absolute. Everyone appears to be in agreement. I am also in agreement with the governor. I also declare my undying devotion to the governor and nothing else. “As for the issues that arose in town while I was away, I would prefer not to discuss them, especially the governor. He is my older brother and supervisor, and I don’t think I should discuss anything with him. “And if I have disagreements with him, I believe they should be resolved at home rather than in the media.” I was raised properly.

“I can tell you from my Christian upbringing that if you make a vow to God that you want to do something, you must keep it. And I have promised God that I will continue to support Godwin Obaseki as governor of Edo State from start to finish. “However, this does not prevent anything to do with ambition. Ambition is a personal trait that has no bearing on loyalty. My devotion to the governor is unwavering. I see that everyone is working together. I am also in agreement with the governor. I also declare my unwavering support and commitment to the governor and nothing else.”
