President Tinubu orders immediate payment

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered that all Group Life Assurance benefits owed to the families of deceased officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army who gave their lives defending the nation against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements be paid out right now.

Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, made this announcement yesterday at the opening ceremony of the Chief of Army Staff Combined Second and Third Quarter Conference 2003 in Abuja. He also said that Nigerian Army troops had ended the infamous IPOB/ESN sit-at-home order in the South East as part of Operation Udoka, working with other key stakeholders to do so. This order had nearly crippled socio-economic activities in the area.

Gen. Lagbaja added, “As you are aware, all military actions come at a cost, the quantum of which cannot be fully anticipated before they are incurred. He was speaking to principal staff officers, force commanders of the MNJTF, Hadin Kai, GOCs, and corps commanders.

To achieve this, it is no secret that we occasionally had traumatic defeats and had to pay with blood and wealth for our victories.

“However, I’m delighted to see that we haven’t wavered in our determination to keep the criminal elements in our society from getting a break, as their heinous deeds have only fueled our desire to step up our attack against them.

“To further enhance our operational impact, the Nigerian Army has created a number of special forces units that employ personnel who have undergone specialized training to combat various forms of criminal activity around the country.

As a result of intelligence-driven operations and the employment of specialized equipment, the special forces units have continued to put up spectacular performances.

“As we continue to acquire and introduce more advanced platforms and equipment into the various theaters as force multipliers, I ask field commanders to make sure that these platforms and equipment are maintained to extend their lifespan and enable the nation to make the most of its investment.

“To comply with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s order that the armed forces and other security agencies should resolutely address all security concerns confronting the nation, we must continue to behave ourselves in a way that represents us as a devoted force.

As a result, I developed my command philosophy to ‘convert the Nigerian Army into a well-trained force, equipped and highly motivated force towards completing our constitutional tasks within a joint environment.’………………………………..CONTINUE READING

This ideology will direct and motivate our operations as I lead the Nigerian Army to become a force prepared to operate and react to any type of danger in any area and spectrum, both inside and outside the borders of Nigeria, through collaborative efforts.

The fact that Boko Haram and other terrorist operations have been significantly reduced in the North East thanks to our efforts in Operation Hadin Kai is heartening.

“Overall, our efforts have resulted in a substantial stockpile of weapons and ammunition being turned over and the mass surrender of terrorist organization members.

The military, working with the government to restore administration to the formerly underdeveloped areas, is helping the good people of Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states gradually improve their standard of living.

“The operational efforts of our troops during Operations Hadarin Daji and Whirl Punch significantly reduced robbery and insurgency in the North West and North Central parts of the country.

“We have also increased our efforts to stop crimes committed in the South East by the Eastern Security Network and the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB.

“Together with other important stakeholders, our forces have successfully stopped Operation Udoka, the infamous “sit at home” order that had all but killed socioeconomic activity in the area. Now, law-abiding locals continue with their regular activities and businesses.

There is no doubt that the nation’s daily crude production has improved noticeably, even though we haven’t yet reached the degree of success we aspire to have in our anti-illegal bunkering operations.

“I am also aware of the crucial importance of good leadership and the well-being of our troops in our missions. To this end, the well-being of the troops and their families will continue to take priority in all of our activities. To improve the welfare of our troops and their families and to keep them focused on their missions, I intend to unify all currently in place welfare provisions.

“We shall ensure the recently announced ‘Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers Scheme’, meant to provide affordable and high-quality post-service homes for our soldiers, in addition to providing proper living quarters for our personnel.

We’ll also make sure our wounded soldiers receive the best medical attention, and we’ll keep helping the widows and other family members of our dead heroes.

According to Lagbaja, the COAS quarterly conferences were created to offer a genuine forum for reviewing the administration, training, logistical, and operational actions of the Nigerian Army as well as other significant service-related topics within a quarter.

“You will agree with me that we have a busy schedule ahead of us because it was impractical to convene the second and third quarter conferences separately because the Year 2023 has been full of noteworthy events on the national and worldwide theaters.

It is important to note that since the bulk of us were involved in the prior administration and held important positions, we surely participated in its decision-making structure. As a result, we are uniquely positioned to evaluate the degree of decision-making implementation from the first quarter conference in 2023.

This is done to adjust some of our strategies to the rapidly shifting security and strategic surroundings. I thus implore everyone to make the most of the little time we have for this meeting to strategize and conduct an in-depth analysis of our operations and associated activities both domestically and abroad.………………………………..CONTINUE READING
