How To Make Nigerian Passport Stronger – Peter Obi Reveals

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for 2023, has proposed a way to enhance the Nigerian passport and regain its global prestige. During a Twitter space session organised by Parallel Facts, a Nigerian news network, Obi claimed that having something valuable to offer the world is the key to winning respect for the Nigerian passport.

Former Anambra governor Obi stated that “respect cannot be earned when a nation is perceived to be economically weak and dependent on others.” To win respect as people or as a nation, we must first put our own house in order by constructing a strong and stable economy. According to the Henley Passport Index, a ranking system that examines the number of destinations passport holders can travel without having a visa, the Nigerian passport is among the bottom 20 to have in 2023, with visa-free access to only 46 countries……………………..CONTINUE READING

 

 

 

Obi emphasised the necessity of a strong foreign policy, which he believes is inextricably tied to a successful home policy. He noted instances of international groups founded based on economic strength, such as the G7 and G20, and voiced sadness that Nigeria is not yet a member of such influential forums. Obi highlighted in a personal narrative that, despite having the option of obtaining dual citizenship and residency in other countries, he has decided to stay purely a Nigerian citizen.
