Comrade Timi Frank, former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Wednesday, described the purported request of the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, to meet President Bola Tinubu as inappropriate, unacceptable and condemnable.

Frank said the meeting billed to take place at the sideline of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September is suspicious in view of the fact that Tinubu currently lacks legitimacy as the result of the 2023 presidential election is being contested in court.

He noted that Biden’s request conveyed by a US Presidential envoy and Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Ambassador Molly Phee, defeats the stance of the American Government on democracy and sanctity of the ballot.

“President Joe Biden is asking to meet with you on the sidelines of the United Nation General Assembly and you are the only African leader he has requested to meet. It is a mark of his high regard for your leadership,” Ambassador Phee said during his meeting with Tinubu recently.

Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), says he is working with President Bola Tinubu to achieve the promise of “renewed hope” for Nigerians.

Speaking during an interview with Channels Television on Wednesday, Wike said he is not a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and is not working for the party.

Wike’s appointment as minister in a cabinet formed by Tinubu, the APC candidate who won the February presidential election, has elicited mixed reactions.

Asked during the interview about his PDP membership status, the former Rivers governor said he remains a member of the party.

Sanwo-Olu spoke on Wednesday after paying a courtesy visit to Oluremi Tinubu, first lady of Nigeria.

The Lagos governor said hard decisions must be taken to move the country to a level where every Nigerian can be comfortable, adding that there would be light at the end of the tunnel.

“We have to continue to encourage and support him and encourage our citizens as well that we see a bright light down the tunnel. Not doing anything is not an option,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“So, in the course of doing things differently, there will be belt up here, there will be tightening there, but at the end of the day we believe the result that comes out of those reforms will improve the quality of life and make things a lot better for our citizens and the economy will continue to grow in the direction that we are all appreciative of.”

Sanwo-Olu also commended the first lady for empowering women and other vulnerable groups in society through her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).

In June, the first lady launched the RHI to empower women, youth and children in the country.

The House of Representatives has berated the Great Green Wall Agency for huge expenditures without commensurate results, particularly the N81 billion claimed to have been spent on planting trees in 11 states.

The states are: Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Yobe and Borno.

The House Ad-hoc Committee on Utilisation of Ecological Funds and other intervention funds into the Great Green Wall Project made its feelings known at an inaugural

investigative hearing on Wednesday.

The committee also grilled the agency over N697.17 million spent on renovation of office accommodation, N11.28 billion on capital projects as well as claiming ownership of some projects carried out by lawmakers under constituency interventions.

The chairman of the panel, Hon. Dabo Ismaila Haruna had stated that his probe panel was not to witch-hunt anybody or public servants but to investigate and recommend to the government certain urgent measures for the country to move forward.
