Hard Times: Nigerians’ll be Willing to Call Buhari Back if he Has Not Gone Far – Lekan-Ojo

Jackson Lekan-Ojo, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a respected security expert, has raised concerns about the challenges currently faced by Nigerians due to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to discontinue the subsidy on premium motor spirit (petrol). He expressed worry that under Tinubu’s leadership, there has been no noticeable improvement in the economy and the security situation has deteriorated. Lekan-Ojo even suggested that Nigerians might be inclined to call for the return of Muhammadu Buhari, his predecessor, to power.

Lekan-Ojo stated, “Personally, I cannot identify any remarkable thing this government has been able to achieve. What we have seen across the country is hardship. This is not what Nigerians bargained for. By now we should have been seeing glimpses of what they promised if truly they meant what they promised before the election. Nigerians are really groaning; there has been no identifiable improvement in any area of our national life – economically, security-wise; rather insecurity is growing daily. Dollar has reached an unprecedented level. There is a rumour of another increase in the price of fuel. As a matter of fact, Nigerians will be willing to call Buhari back, if he has not gone far.”

The politician, based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, expressed his concern over the unequal distribution of appointments, particularly the Southeast geopolitical zone receiving fewer ministerial positions under the Tinubu administration. He feared that this decision, combined with the zone’s previous exclusion from key leadership roles in the 10th National Assembly, could exacerbate problems in the region, despite ongoing efforts to restore peace.

While Lekan-Ojo commended the president’s choice of Security Chiefs, he cautioned against potential obstacles that could undermine their performance. In an interview with THE SUN, he also addressed other crucial national matters.
