Atiku Abubakar Reveals Why He Will Go To Supreme Court After He Lost To Tinubu At The Tribunal

After losing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal meeting in Abuja yesterday, Peoples Democratic Party presidential nominee Atiku Abubakar has disclosed why he will approach the Supreme Court.

After INEC announced that the APC and its candidate had won the presidential election on February 25, Atiku Abubakar posted on his verified Facebook page: “As you already know, I approached the court. For me, going to court is a matter of principle because that is where justice resides. As you well know, our judiciary’s brave and bold judgements have been crucial to the success of my political career.

He continued, “I am afraid that the judgement of the court as rendered by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal yesterday failed to restore confidence in our dreams of free and fair elections devoid of human manipulations. Our gains in ensuring transparent elections through the deployment of technology were heavily compromised by INEC in the way it managed the last presidential election.

He said, “Gentlemen of the press, I take great pains to warn you that the decision of the court of first instance on this subject absolutely falls far short of that expectation. The verdict rendered by the court yesterday is consequently respected, but it is a verdict that I do not accept.

“I refuse to accept the judgement because I believe it is devoid of substantial justice,” he declared. But I will never let my unhappiness with a court’s decision shake my faith in the judicial system.

In light of this, he stated, “I have instructed my solicitors to exercise my constitutionally protected rights of appeal to the higher court, which in this instance is the Supreme Court.”
