Guber: What I Can Say Is To Congratulate Apapa Faction Of LP On Appeal Court Judgment -Monday Mawah

A lawyer representing the Labour Party (LP), Monday Mawah has alleged that the Court of Appeal has upheld that the governorship primary elections conducted by the Lamidi Apapa faction of the party in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa on April 16, are valid.

Speaking during an interview with Channels TV, Mawah also said the appellate court declared the primary conducted by Julius Abure’s faction of LP on April 15 invalid because of an order from the FCT High Court that restrained Abure from parading himself as national chairman of the party. In his closing statement, Mawah added that all he can say is to congratulate Apapa’s faction for the well-deserved judgment of the Appeal Court.

According to Mawah: “The Court of Appeal in a unanimous decision upheld the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Owerri that had earlier upheld the primary conducted by Lamidi Apapa, and also upheld the candidate that emerged from the primary that took place on the 16th and that any other primary that took place on the 15th, the court declared them invalid. Now the court’s finding in that case was that from the evidence before him, there were two major findings by the court. One was that in what capacity was Abure acting as at on the 15th when he conducted the primary because, from the evidence before him, there was a restraining order from the FCT High Court restraining him and three others from carrying out all their functions as national officers of the party.

“Another finding the court made was that there are two primaries before the court: one on the 15th and one on the 16th and the court held that the primary conducted on the 16th by the acting national chairman, Alhaji Lamidi Apapa is the valid primary. Those were the findings of the court. In my final statement, What I can say is to congratulate the Lamida Apapa faction of Labour Party on this well-deserved Appeal Court judgment which affirmed the decision of the Federal High Court in Owerri that ruled that it is the primary on the 16th that is the only valid primary”.
