'Chief Awolowo And Azikwe Never Went To London For Campaign After Independence' – Prof Bolaji Akinyemi

A Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Professor Bolaji Akinyemi has alleged that the likes of Chief Awolowo and Azikwe never went to London for a campaign once Nigeria gained independence in 1960. He said in an interview with Arise TV news that the old elite politicians in Nigeria appear to have more value than the current generation of politicians. According to him, 19 Nigerian governors attending the UNDP 3-day retreat in Rwanda is a shame.

He said, ”I’m of that age when I remember Chief Awolowo, Azikwe, Sardauna, and Balewa never went to London for campaign once we became independent. Or Paris, or the United States as part of their campaign, they never did. During the second republic, Awolowo and Aminu Kano never left the country as part of the campaign. And now we have a crop of politicians, we criticize the old school but the old school seems to have more values, more patriotism, more integrity than this present lots.”
