Senate in rowdy session over motion to step down Keyamo’s screening

The Senate was forced into a closed session this afternoon to avert division over a motion to step down screening of Mr. Festus Keyamo, a nominee from Delta State, as reported by “the Daily Times” online newspaper.

Darlington Nwokocha representing Abia central, moved a motion on Monday when Keyamo appeared before the lawmakers.

Channels Television reported that, Nwokocha’s motion was seconded by his colleague from Abia-South Senatorial District, Enyinnaya Abaribe.

After that, the proposal was put to a voice vote by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, but the members couldn’t agree on anything.

A boisterous session instantly broke out in the red chamber.

Keyamo was charged with disrespecting the 9th National Assembly and calling the previous Assembly corrupt by Nwokocha.

Festus Egwarewa Keyamo, a Nigerian attorney, columnist, and human rights campaigner, was born in San Francisco on January 21, 1970. Keyamo was chosen to lead strategic communications for President Buhari’s 2019 reelection campaign in April 2018.

Keyamo, who is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), previously served as the ex-president Muhammadu Buhari’s minister of state for labor and productivity.
