Gabon Coup: I don’t know how to call a father and son ruling a country for 56 years as a democratic rule- Shehu Sani

Recall that the military in Gabon has announced the take over of power in the country on Wednesday.

The announcement came after President Ali Bongo Ondimba, 64, was re-elected for a third term, in an election the opposition described as a ‘fraud orchestrated’ by the ruling party.

The Bongo family, one of Africa’s most powerful dynasties, ruled the country since 1967, until the military intervention.

In his reaction, a former Nigerian lawmaker said that he knows what military rule is, and also democractic government. However, he revealed that he don’t know what to use in describing a father and son controlling the affairs of a country for 56 years in a democratic dispensation.

Senator Sani wrote, “Gabon:I know what is called Military rule.I know what is called Democratic rule.I don’t know how to call a father and son ruling a country for 56 years as a democratic rule.”
