Gabon Coup: Expect More Military Takeovers In Africa' – Femi Fani-Kayode

According to the Punch papers, Former Ation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has commented on the recent coup in Gabon and predicted the potential for more military takeovers in French-speaking West and Central African countries in the near future. Fani-Kayode expressed his lack of surprise regarding the Gabon coup, referencing his prior warnings about such developments in a recent essay.

Fani-Kayode took to his social media platform to share his insights. He noted that he had previously foreseen the possibility of coups occurring in Francophone African nations. He outlined the circumstances in his earlier essay titled, “Does Killing Nigerien Babies Bring Glory To Our Name?”. The recent coup in Gabon, which resulted in the ousting of President Ali Bongo, who had held power for 53 years, aligns with the concerns he had raised in his essay.

Fani-Kayode concluded his remarks by raising a rhetorical question: Would regional bodies like ECOWAS or the African Union consider intervention in response to the political situation in Gabon? His observations indicate a genuine concern for political stability in the region and the potential for a trend of military interventions in certain African nations.
