Nigerians Cannot Forgive Buhari Because He Failed To Revive At Least One Refinery In 8 Years-Christopher Sarki

Christopher B. Sarki, the National Chairman of CSDGGI (Citizens for Sustainable Development and Good Governance Initiative), a former Route Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), has expressed his opposition to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to terminate the nation’s gasoline subsidy program.

This announcement was made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the day of his inauguration, May 29, 2023, leading to the immediate removal of fuel subsidy.

In an exclusive interview published by The Sun paper, Christopher B. Sarki conveyed his views as follows: “President Tinubu’s abrupt declaration of the fuel subsidy removal during his inauguration on May 29 left Nigerians and the NLC (Nigeria Labour Congress) with no choice but to protest and initiate a nationwide strike. The lack of provisions to mitigate the consequences of this decision was the main driver behind these actions.”

He further added, “I am skeptical about the effectiveness of palliatives in truly alleting the impact of subsidy removal. This is because if the government raises workers’ wages, it could lead to corresponding increases in the prices of goods by market vendors, housing costs by landlords, and other commodities and services. However, I find some relief in Tinubu’s commitment to restarting the Port Harcourt Refinery within five months.”

Expanding on his earlier argument, Sarki emphasized, “Former President Buhari’s failure to revive even one refinery over his eight-year tenure remains unforgivable to Nigerians. Throughout his campaigns in 2014 and 2019, Buhari pledged to restore the country’s refineries.”

In response to a recent statement made by Christopher B. Sarki, published by The Sun paper on their verified Twitter account, numerous Nigerians have taken to Twitter to express their thoughts.
