Fuel Subsidy: Tinubu has the right to do what he is doing because he told us- Adewole Adebayo

The candidate of the SDP in the 2023 presidential election, Adewole Adebayo has said that President Tinubu has the authority to remove the subsidy because he made promises during his presidential campaign. Tinubu publicly stated that if elected, he would remove the subsidy on day 1 of his presidency, regardless of any opposition. He declared that even in the face of protests, he would follow through with his decision. The majority of the votes went to him, signifying widespread support for his stance, and this solidified his mandate to act accordingly.

However, given the overwhelming support Tinubu received from the public, Adebayo acknowledges that he cannot challenge the merit of his argument now. The people have chosen him to fulfill his campaign promise, and he has indeed kept his word. This has earned him praise, with the northern region referring to him as “Dan Amana” for sticking to his promises, and the Igbo community recognizing him as “Ekwueme” for delivering on his commitments.

He said that the difficulty of implementing the subsidy removal was never denied by Tinubu. He knew it wouldn’t be an easy task, yet he remained steadfast in his resolve to carry it out. This dedication to his promises has earned him respect from different regions of the country, as he tackled the challenge head-on.

Adebayo’s pointed out that President Tinubu’s actions are in line with his electoral promises, and his commitment to fulfilling them despite the challenges is commendable. The majority of the voters supported his stance, empowering him to make the decision to remove the subsidy. This demonstrates his strong leadership and determination to stay true to his word. As a result, he has gained admiration and respect from various parts of the country for keeping his promises.

According to him, “Well the president has the authority to do what he is doing because he told the public, ‘When you elect me as president, on day 1 I will remove subsidy and there is nothing anybody can do. I will rather not be in that office than let it last one more day’ and he also said ‘You can protest for as long as you want, I am going to remove it’. And people said go ahead and do it because the majority of the votes went to him so he had far more votes than I had”
