French Government Rejects 48-Hour Evacuation Ultimatum Given To It's Ambassador By Niger Junta

After giving the French Ambassador a 48-hour deadline to leave the Niger Republic, France informed General Tchiani’s military administration that it lacked both the authority and legitimacy to give such a directive.

The French government insisted that only a government that is constitutionally elected by the people has the right to issue such an order, according to a report published by ARISE NEWS on its verified Twitter account on Sunday, August 27 in response to the demand for its Ambassador, Sylvain Itte, to depart the Niger Republic immediately.

Further, France said that it is carefully observing events at its embassy in Niamey, the capital of the Niger Republic.

“The putschists do not have the authority to make this request, the ambassador’s approval is only coming from the legally elected Nigerien authorities,” the statement said in part. Our embassy’s operational and security situations are under regular review.
