I Will Check My Emails, I Did Not Receive Any Prayers – Ireti Kingibe Reacts To Akpabio’s Remarks

Senator Ireti Kingibe reacted on Wednesday to Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s statement that “prayers” had been sent to the lawmakers before they go on a break, which led to rumors about covert benefits. Before retracting his statement and referring to the claimed payout as “prayers” delivered to the senators’ “mailboxes,” Akpabio told the senators, “In order to enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the Clerk of the National Assembly.”

According to Channels Television , the lone member from the FCT in the red chamber, Kingibe, who was a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today, emphasized that she did not get any extra allowances.

I didn’t receive any prayers, in fact, but I’ll check my inbox for them, the Labour Party member jokingly said, adding that she wasn’t sure exactly what Akpabio was referring to.

She acknowledged that “most people” believed that the politicians may have received allowances, but she clarified that these payments may just be “statutory things that we would have been paid anyway.”

“I don’t believe it was anything additional that should have been provided. I haven’t definitely noticed anything extra, Kingibe stated.

When asked about the expensive cost of governance, especially on the side of senators, who are frequently criticized for receiving some of the highest salaries in the world, the opposition legislator acknowledged that there was little she could do to change the situation.

However, she disclosed how she plans to use the extra money she is paid. According to Kingibe, “I have a constituency office, as well as a development office where I carry out development programs for the people. “Obviously, I’m new (and) our pay is quite low. But a large portion of it will go toward funding that office and the development programs as the funds come in.
