FCT: El-Rufai demolished my house and that of a minister when he was FCT minister- Dr. Austin Maho

Dr. Austin Maho, a well-known commentator on public matters, recently shared an experience he had in the past when El-Rufai was FCT minister. He talked about how he didn’t feel upset when Nasir El-Rufai, knocked down his house to follow the city plan for Abuja. What’s surprising is that Maho wasn’t bothered by this because El-Rufai also destroyed the house of a minister of defense at that time. Maho shared this while discussing something said by the new FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

During a show on AIT , Maho also talked about how El-Rufai’s approach is similar to Wike’s approach. Wike has promised to remove buildings constructed in specific green areas to restore the city plan’s integrity.

Maho explained, “The places that El-Rufai marked as green zones are now bustling areas with lots of development in Abuja. So, when Nyesom Wike took on his role and announced that he plans to fix the Abuja city plan by getting rid of any buildings on these green zones, no matter who owns them, that’s the same approach El-Rufai had. I personally went through the experience of El-Rufai demolishing my property, but I wasn’t upset. Want to know why? While he was tearing down my house, he was also tearing down the house of a defense minister. That’s how you create a rule that applies to everyone.”

He said that El-Rufai, who was in charge of the city before, knocked down his house and the house of a defense minister. Maho wasn’t sad about this because he thought it was fair – if even a minister’s house was taken down, then everyone should follow the rules. He talked about this when discussing what the new FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, said about fixing the city plan. Maho also mentioned that El-Rufai’s way of doing things is similar to Wike’s way. Wike wants to remove buildings in certain green areas to make the city plan better.

Maho said, “The areas El-Rufai said should stay green are now busy parts of Abuja with lots of buildings. So, when Wike came in and said he’ll fix the city plan by removing buildings from these green areas, no matter who owns them, that’s the same thing El-Rufai did. When El-Rufai destroyed my house, he destroyed a defense minister’s house too. This is how you make a rule that applies to everyone.”
