Senator’s Holiday Allowance: Akpabio Mistakenly Pressed the Alarm Instead of Mute Button — Sen. Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani has reacted to a controversial statement by Senate President Godswill Akpabio informing his colleagues that the National Assembly Clerk had sent a token to their accounts or emails for them to enjoy their holiday.

The former lawmaker, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly, in his characteristic sarcastic style, said that Akpabio mistakenly pressed the alarm instead of the mute button regarding crediting the lawmakers’ accounts.

He stated this in a post his Twitter handle that read:

“Crediting the legislators’ accounts is done under the mute button, the uncommon Senate President mistakenly pressed the alarm.”

In a video that has since gone viral video, Akpabio was heard saying the National Assembly Clerk had credited funds into the individual bank accounts of all senators to enjoy their holiday.

“To enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the clerk of the national assembly.”

However, the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State was to later withdraw the statement and instead said: ‘prayers have been sent to mailboxes of respective senators.”

“I withdraw that statement. To allow you to enjoy your holiday, the Senate President has sent prayers to your mailboxes to assist you to go on a safe journey and return.”

Meanwhile, the majority of Nigerians who reacted to the tweet roundly condemned Akpabio for frittering away taxpayer’s money on rich politicians while the poor masses languish in abject poverty and penury, especially at this time.

Some others, however, accused Senator Sani of benefitting from similar largess during his time in the Senate.
