Ex-NBA president, Olumide Akpata, quits Law practice, declares political ambition

Immediate past President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Olumide Akpata, on Thursday announced that he has disengaged from Law practice by resigning from the chamber where he is practising because of his political ambition.

Akpata was the president of the association of lawyers in Nigeria from August 28, 2020 to July 19, 2022. He was succeeded by Yakubu Maikyau, the current president of the association.

Announcing his decision to resign from the chambers where he was practising in Lagos State on Thursday, he said he had no choice but to quit practising because he wanted to pursue his political ambition in his home state, Edo.

According to Akpata on his Twitter handle, his disengagement from the Law firm will take effect from August 31 this year in order to enable him concentrate fully on his political ambition.

In a seven-paragraph disengagement letter written by him which he posted on his Twitter handle, Akpata said the decision to quit “became inevitable in view of my recent foray into active politics in Edo State with a view to contributing my quota towards the critical task of nation building.”
