That’s twice the amount the unpopular Glazer family are seeking to sell United for – with Daily Star Sport exclusively revealing their $10bn (£8.9bn) price tag last week.
There’s only a slim number of people around the world who can afford to stump up the sum, with Bolkiah one of them. He’d have to put aside his past loyalties, though.
That’s because despite his family’s mega wealth, he has pursued a career on the pitch, which led him to have spells with not only Chelsea, but also the likes of Arsenal and Leicester in England.
Having been born in Los Angeles, Bolkiah was educated in England and had his first taste of elite-level football in Southampton’s academy. After briefly training with Reading, Arsenal offered him a trial.
But it was the Blues who snapped him up, handing him a two-year contract in 2014. When that deal wasn’t extended, Bolkiah trialled at Stoke City.
It looked like he could finally make it after signing a three-year pro contract with Leicester City, which was extended until the summer of 2020. However, it wasn’t to be for Bolkiah, who is now playing closer to home in Thailand.
The midfielder’s career hasn’t worked out like planned. But should he want a return to English shores, then the opportunity for a transition to the backroom is available at Old Trafford.
The Glazers are open to selling the Red Devils after continued fan protests against their ownership in recent years. And you wouldn’t put it past the American moguls to let an ex-Chelsea star take the reins.
Britain’s richest man and United supporter Jim Ratcliffe has been touted as the top choice to take over, while fellow billionaire Elon Musk has also jokingly declared his interest in the past.
