El-Rufai: Arewa Youths Threaten Senate| Nobody Attacked Me For Visiting Tinubu – Okonjo-Iweala

Ministerial screening: Don’t provoke us with non-confirmation of El-Rufai – Arewa youths

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has faulted the non-confirmation of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai as minister.

AYCF said the Senate should not test the patience of northern youths by confirming El-Rufai’s nomination.

A statement by AYCF President, Yerima Shettima, said northerners feel humiliated by the news.

He said El-Rufai’s non-confirmation was an attempt to deny the north fair representation in Tinubu’s cabinet.

According to Shettima: “We regret to note that the targeting of Nasir El-Rufai for such irreverent treatment is part of a wider agenda being pursued by certain dubious political interests to deny the north and the younger generation of Nigerians fair representation in the coming cabinet.

“We consider it deceptive for the Senate to give security checks as a reason for not confirming El-Rufai because it is common knowledge that the ministerial nomination list passed through security scrutiny before getting to the Senate.

“It will therefore amount to unwarranted provocation to Kaduna State, to the North and to the Nigerian youth for El-Rufai not to be confirmed for flimsy considerations.”

Court Fixes Date To Rule On Suit Filed By Tinubu’s Minister-designate, Matawalle, To Stop Probe

A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed the date to deliver judgement on a suit filed by a former governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, seeking to halt the probe of his tenure by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other entities.

The court fixed August 30, 2023, to rule on the case.

Matawalle had filed a lawsuit with reference: FHC/ABJ/CS/753/2023 against the State Security Service, Nigeria Police Force, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nigerian Immigration Service and the Attorney General of the Federation before the High Court.

Among other things, Matawalle, who was nominated by President Bola Tinubu as minister and was recently confirmed by the Senate after screening, asked the court to declare that the EFCC lacks authority or power to commence or conduct investigations, inquiries, and/or charges against him, his family, colleagues, and contractors about any monies belonging to the Zamfara State Government.

In addition, citing sections 4, 6, and 7 of the Zamfara State Anti-Corruption Law No. 12, 2021, he requests that the court declare that only the Zamfara State Anti-Corruption Commission has the authority and power to investigate allegations of corrupt practices or financial crimes against him or his administration as Governor of Zamfara State.
