The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) through Wilson Uwujaren, its Head of Media, in a publicized statement had announced the arrest of one Precious Ofure Omonkhoa for an alleged bitcoin investment scam.
According to Wilson Uwujaren, the suspect was apprehended in the Ikoyi area of Lagos, after the commission had received reliable intelligence information about his scamming activities.
Meanwhile, the suspect had confessed to the EFCC that he ran a bitcoin scheme where he allegedly posed as Moshem Cnich, a Swedish national, to defraud unsuspecting and easily gullible victims who invest money with the hope of making make huge returns.
EFCC Head of Media, Uwujaren also revealed that preliminary investigation, shows that Precious also involved in a dating scam and had defrauded two victims in Canada.
That’s not all. The suspect was linked to the Cubana Group after he confessed to have used parts of the money he made from his scamming activities to purchased a piece of land worth $150,000USD through bitcoin from CASA-Cubana, a project being run by the Cubana Group.
Uwujaren also added that $50,000 was found in the suspect’s bitcoin wallet when he was arrested.
Recalled that some days ago, Obi Cubana, who owns the Cubana Group, was arrested by the EFFC for interrogation over fraud and tax evasion issues. If Precious had been arrested before Obi Cubana, one would easily assumed that he would have been questioned about Precious’ transaction with CASA-Cubana during his 4-day stay at the EFFC domain in Abuja.
