Edo's Deputy Sheibu- I was still loyal to the governor, despite him accusing me of plotting a coup.

Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo State, has moved his deputy Philip Shaibu’s office outside the Government House Complex in Benin as their relationship deteriorates. Shaibu will now conduct business out of a building formerly occupied by the State Public Procurement Office in Benin after being physically prevented by Obaseki’s security agents from greeting the governor at a church service last Sunday according to THENATION .

Yesterday, it was being renovated, and a new signpost had just been put up by the gate. The signpost is marked with the following information: “Office of the Deputy Governor, No. 7, Dennis Osadebey Avenue, GRA, Benin City.” On December 16, 2014, the building was dedicated by the governor in office at the time, Adams Oshiomhole.

When questioned about the development yesterday over the phone, Communication and Orientation Commissioner Chris Nehikhare said: “If there is the Edo State government’s signboard at the entrance stating that the new building is now the office of the deputy governor of the state, then it must be so.”

The DG is in court right now over claims that his principal is trying to have him removed from office with the help of the state House of Assembly. The accusation has been denied by Obaseki and the Assembly. Shaibu stated that he was still loyal to the governor, despite the governor accusing him of plotting a coup.
