Edo Deputy Governor Reacts to Alleged Rift With Obaseki, Reveals What He Wants

The deputy governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has said whatever issues he has with his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki, he will settle it behind the camera.

According to TheCable reports, the deputy governor pledged his loyalty to his principal and described Obaseki as his “elder brother.

Shaibu made this assertion on Sunday at the 32nd-anniversary ceremony of Edo state, which took place at the government house, in Benin City.

Speaking at the event, Shaibu downplayed the rift, declining to make public comments about Obaseki, Channels TV reported.

“My loyalty to the governor remains absolute. I see that everybody is doing solidarity. I am also in solidarity with the governor. I am also declaring my unalloyed solidarity and loyalty to the governor and nothing more,” he said.

Shuaibu, however, noted that loyalty has nothing to do with his ambition to become the governor of Edo state, The Punch report added.

Recall that the deputy governor had approached a Federal High Court in Abuja and obtained an injunction to stop the governor and State Assembly from a plot to impeach him.

Reacting to the development, Governor Obaseki expressed shock at Shaibu’s action and accused his deputy of plotting a coup against him, further deepening the rift between the duo.

But in a swift reaction, the deputy governor said there was no truth to the coup allegation, adding that he has no plan to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
