The members of the State Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ebonyi chapter have suspended Its Chairman, Mr. Tochukwu Okorie for alleged gross misconduct.
The Deputy state Chairman of the party, Mr. Emmanuel Nworie, told newsmen after their emergency meeting on Monday in Abakaliki that the suspension was for one month.
Nworie, who led other members of the committee alleged that Okorie has failed to organize a meeting with the executive for four months since he was reinstated as Chairman by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
It reports that some of the executives in the meeting include: the Deputy Chairman, legal adviser of the party, Publicity secretary, and the women leader amongst others.
The Deputy Chairman added that the party Chairman also abandoned the activities of the party since his reinstatement.
It recalls that the Court of Appeal in Abuja had on May 23, ordered the reinstatement of Okorie as Ebonyi PDP’s Chairman and the sack of Mr. Silas Onu.
According to Nworie, Okorie also allegedly joined an aspirant to file a suit against PDP in the state and that is unlawful and unacceptable by the members of the committee.
“Sequel to the emergency state working committee meeting today, July 4, 2022, we consider the activities of our Chairman, Tochukwu Okorie, and his misconduct.
“The chairman has failed to organize a meeting for over four months which is against the party constitution,” Nworie added.
Reacting to the development, Mr. Tochukwu Okorie, PDP Chairman in Ebonyi, noted that the suspension was illegal.
“It is only the national leadership that can suspend me. II am a member of the National Executive Council of the party and no member of the state working committee has the power to suspend me.
“On gross misconduct, I am the Chairman as directed by the court. I have the prerogative power to access the party’s account in carting out the party activities,” he said.
