Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao Highlights Concerns Over Western Influence in African Elections

Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao, the former Permanent Representative to the African Union Mission In Washington DC, has voiced her concern about the interference of the Western world in the political affairs of African nations, causing significant challenges on the continent.

In an interview on Arise TV this morning, Dr. Arikana highlighted that African countries find it difficult to conduct elections independently due to the pervasive influence of Western powers, which is where the problem starts

In her statements as seen on Arise TV this morning…

Why is it that African countries are not allowed to hold their elections without the influence of the Western world? That’s where the problem begins and like I said before, no matter how good a leader is, the Western world will always support the opposition. And if you follow history, if the opposition happens to win the election, the Western world will still support whoever is the opposition. So I want Africans to understand that we are under siege and a lot of times, we are supported to behave in a way that is detrimental to the overall well-being of the people.”
