"We Have A Governor Who Said He Left N3000 In The State Account" -Lemmy Ughegbe

Nigerian journalist Lemmy Ughegbe highlighted a particular governor in Nigeria who claimed to have left only 3000 naira in the state account. Ughegbe made this revelation during an interview on AIT’s Kakaaki program. He was discussing Godswill Akpabio’s recent statement in the Senate where Akpabio mentioned that the clerk had prepared something to make their holiday enjoyable.

According to Ughegbe, Akpabio’s statement was made despite his awareness of the current sensitivity among Nigerians. He pointed out that Akpabio was previously seen in the house seemingly “mocking” the poor by saying, “Let the poor breathe,” while chuckling and laughing.

Ughegbe criticized the current administration for raising fuel prices twice amidst the suffering of Nigerians. He expressed concern about Akpabio’s statement, which advised Nigerians to tighten their belts and be patient while those in power live lavishly. He also mentioned that the minimum wage hasn’t been increased, and some state governors fail to pay even the minimum wage.

Ughegbe further highlighted the dire financial situations in some states, where governors left behind debts and unpaid salaries, citing former governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State as an example.
