Mr Jibrin Okutepa, SAN, who is the lawyer to the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has noted that Nigeria’s Democracy is a joke, stating it clearly that in any democratic system, the rule of law is the cornerstone. He criticised INEC for refusing to obey court orders, noting court orders are not obeyed anarchy looms large.

Speaking further, Mr Okutepa noted that lawyers as ministers in the temple of justice ought not to aid disobedience of court orders, noting that anything goes goes in Nigeria. He went further and stated that there is no consequences for misconduct in Nigeria.

Mr Okutepa went on and made it known that in any country where judiciary is taken seriously, no one will disrespect and disobey court order with impunity, just as it is being done in Nigeria.

Mr Jibrin Okutepa made this disclosure in a tweet he made on his twitter handle, nothing that the trend that runs all through the election petition tribunals, almost in all the states in Nigeria is the refusal of INEC to obey subpoenas duly issued and served by the court.

He wrote: Democracy in Nigeria for me is a joke. In any democratic system rule of law is the cornerstone. Subpoena are court orders. When court orders are not obeyed, anarchy looms large.”

The LP counsel went on and noted that in all these that the petitioners suffered in the hands of INEC, in most cases lawyers aid INEC. He went on and urged Nigerians to go to the Tribunal and see their conduct and their attitude. Mr Okutepa then stated it clearly that we can’t grow our democracy, when we use legal jargons and technicalities to keep violators of our sovereignty in power.

In addition, he noted that we are claiming to be democratic, noting that we not, but we are jokers practising despotism in the name of democracy, noting that he despots everywhere.
