Impeachment Suit: Shaibu Planning To Join Another Party, Says Obaseki

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State says the lawsuit instituted by his deputy, Philip Shaibu, to stop impeachment moves against him is a pre-emptive action to enable him join another party while retaining his position as deputy governor.

Channels TV report that, Obaseki spoke for the first time since Shaibu filed a suit to stop an alleged move by the governor to impeach his deputy over their irreconcilable differences.

“The Edo election will take place later in the year; there is no schedule yet. Therefore, I think that his action is simply a preemptive one to obtain a court order to maintain his position when he proceeds to the other side to obtain the ticket.

We don’t need this kind of problem, and two, our state isn’t being portrayed correctly locally and internationally, which is unjust to our party and the state, in my opinion. All over the world have been calling me lately.

Channels TV report that, Obaseki stated, “It is quite terrible that someone who is a member of an administration would do this to the administration he has been a member of only for his own personal ambition.

In his decision on Shaibu’s request on notice, Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja granted an interim order, asking the court to stop his principal’s attempt to force him out of his position.

Justice Mohammed instructed the parties to the lawsuit to uphold the status quo in his ruling.

The status quo order will remain in effect until the defendants are required to provide justification as stated in another court decision issued on July 27, 2023.

The hearing was then postponed until August 10 by Justice Mohammed, who also mandated that the IGP, DSS, and Obaseki who weren’t represented in court be provided with hearing notices.
