Coup: You Are Not Just Going To Fight Niger, You Will Fight Mali, Guinea And Chad – Usman Bugaje

Dr. Usman Bugaje, former Political Adviser in the Presidency and a former member of the House of Representatives has come out to say that starting a war with Niger military junta could also draw in the likes of Burkina Faso, Mali and Guinea, all of which are under the control of a military junta.

During a recent interview on AIT, Dr. Bugaje emphasized that if ECOWAS were to take action against Niger, Nigeria’s role would be significant. However, given the myriad challenges facing Nigeria, he strongly advocated against pursuing a military conflict.

In his own words as seen on AIT this morning….

“You can see that the coup is now very popular in West Africa, so you are not just going to fight the Niger military junta, you are going to fight Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso and Chad. And for what I know, Nigeria is a large country so she’s going to make a huge contribution in the war. Yet, we must acknowledge Nigeria’s internal complexities. With ongoing issues like the decade-long struggle against Boko Haram and the presence of banditry in the North West, alongside economic challenges including inflation and exchange rate fluctuations, embarking on a war would be an ill-advised course of action at this juncture. Furthermore, it’s crucial to remember that Niger has previously shown solidarity with Nigeria through various sacrifices. As such, considering them as a target of aggression should be out of the question.”
