A few hours prior to the meeting, the junta leaders in the Niger Republic met with the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

According to Vanguard, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi came at the Presidential at around 8:25 p.m., right after a high-level delegation of the Nigerian Islamic Ulama met with the President.

The former Emir responded simply, “It’s fine,” when questioned about his trip to Niger.

Sanusi was still meeting with the President as of the time this article was submitted.

The Niger junta declined to meet the US representative.

The military junta had previously declined to meet with ambassadors from the United States, the African Union, and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), according to The Guardian story.

Following a military coup that sent shockwaves through the region over the past few days, Niger has been in the international spotlight.

Sanusi traveled to the Niger Republic, a West African nation that recently cut diplomatic ties with Nigeria due to its opposition to the military regime there, but it was unclear in what capacity she did so.
