Coup: "Putin Thought His War With Ukraine Will Take 1 Week, It Has Lasted Over One Year" Bode George

Amid discussions about a potential military invasion of Niger Republic, Chief Bode George, an elder statesman and member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has appealed to the leaders of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to draw lessons from the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, emphasizing the unpredictability of military interventions.

In an interview on ARISE TV’s ‘The Morning Show’ on Tuesday, August 8, Chief George, a former military governor of Ondo State, cautioned that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s initial projection of a one-week war against Ukraine stretched into over a year with substantial casualties.

He advised, “I urge the ECOWAS Heads of State to exercise greater caution. Consider the current conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Putin initially anticipated a one-week war that has now surpassed a year, resulting in loss of innocent lives. War is not a tril matter. Dialogue should be prioritized over warfare. I speak from both personal experience and the recognition that Niger Republic isn’t the sole francophone nation under military rule in the region. Guinea, Burkina Faso, Mali, Chad, and Sudan also share this status, stretching across West Africa and the Sahara. Why single out Niger Republic?”
