It’s worrisome we’ve moved from era of ballot box snatching to one of server manipulation– Rev. Fr. Atta Barkindo

The National Peace Committee’s secretariat’s head, Rev. Fr. Atta Barkindo, raised concern about a change in electoral fraud during the 2023 elections in Nigeria. In Abuja, Fr. Barkindo spoke with Sunday Sun about the significant electoral triumphs and shortcomings. He praised the election’s relative stability and calmness and offered the Peace Committee’s members credit for it.

He did, however, make several crucial points, particularly in relation to the use of technology throughout the voting process. Vote box stealing was meant to be stopped by the advent of electronic results transfer, however many were let down by the server fault and the lack of result uploading.

In response to inquiries over the lateness of the Peace Committee’s report submission, Fr. Barkindo emphasized that the study provides comprehensive suggestions by covering the entire political cycle, including off-cycle elections. On election day, he emphasized the need to promote peace and nonviolence as well as address issues with slack enforcement of electoral laws and regulations.

The Peace Committee’s objective is to support a nonviolent transition in Nigeria and make sure that elections there are held without incident. It encourages adherence to the rule of law and promotes objectivity, allowing the judiciary to do its tasks in an open manner. According to Fr.
