Why I Facilitated The Removal of Maryam Shetty From Tinubu’s Ministerial List, Ganduje Opens Up

The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, has explained how he ensured the removal of a nominee, Maryam Shettima, aka Maryam Shetty, from President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial nomination.

Recalls that there were stirs on social media on Friday after Shetty was removed from the second batch of the ministerial nominee list and replaced with Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, also a Kano indigene.

Speaking in an interview on Freedom Radio, Ganduje alleged that Shetty’s name was smuggled into the 19-man ministerial list, adding that her nomination caused an upset among Kano residents, who questioned her competency for the job, Daily Nigerian reported.

Speaking further, Ganduje noted that her competency is questionable. Hence he replaced Shetty with Mariya Bunkure.

He said: “But what happened in this case is that we were not consulted. So we just heard her name on air. Initially, we didn’t complain, taking into consideration that Mr President has the right to appoint anyone.

“And as loyalists of the president who understand democracy, we accepted his choice.

“But again, we don’t know her, and since we don’t know her, we can’t vouch for her competency for the job.”

While acknowledging the role played by the former nominee, Ganduje assured that she would be considered for another appointment.

Meanwhile, Maryam Shetty has described the withdrawal of her ministerial appointment as the will of God.

Shetty in a statement on Saturday, said she felt sheer joy and pride at his nomination beyond words, stating that she would not allow the incident to stop her from believing in the country.

She also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima for finding her worthy of being nominated as a minister and for considering her for such an esteemed position.

The APC chieftain, therefore, said the withdrawal of her nomination had reaffirmed her belief in the potential for change and in the inherent greatness of Nigeria.

“My nomination may have been withdrawn, but my hope is unwavering. As I have often stated, “Hope is not lost; maybe I will come back again” She said.
