The residents, who spoke in separate interviews with our correspondent, said the procurement of tractors for farmers, the declaration of a state of emergency on education, enrollment of local government pensioners, and 50 per cent reduction in the school fees of the College of Nursing and Midwifery among others were great steps towards repositioning the state on the part of development.

No fewer than two persons were reportedly killed in a fresh crisis that erupted, yesterday, between the Wurkun and Karinjo communities in Karim-Lamido Local Council of Taraba State. It was also alleged that over five villages were burnt to ashes.

Confirming the report, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abdullahi Usman, described the attack as “ a gorilla welfare,” adding that many anti-riot policemen had been deployed to the area. He said apart from the policemen, heavily armed soldiers and other security operatives were drafted to the troubled communities. He was optimistic that the command, in collaboration with the sister’s security agencies, would put the situation under control.

However, he blamed the Karinjo community for the attack. He alleged that the Karinjo community had engaged the service of mercenaries from the neighboring Lau Local Council, and this has led to the killings of no fewer than two persons, while some villages burnt beyond recognition. Villages razed at the time of filing this report, included Garin Marwa, Sarkin Kudu, Sallamin Kala, and Yashi Pena. Sources from the communities described Karinjo’s action as shocking.

The Presidency has rejected the report of the European Union on the outcome of the 2023 general elections.

In its final report on the Nigerian elections, the globally acclaimed body said trust in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had been severely damaged, especially as a result of the failure to upload the result of the presidential election electronically.

But responding in a statement on Sunday, Dele Alake, Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications and Strategy, described the report as a product of a poorly done desk job that relied heavily on few instances of skirmishes in less than 1000 polling units out of over 176,000 where Nigerians voted on election day.

He said the report relied more on rumours, hearsay, cocktails of prejudiced and uninformed social media commentaries and opposition talking heads.

Alake said the 2023 general elections, most especially the presidential election, won by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu/All Progressives Congress, were credible, peaceful, free, fair and the best organised general elections in Nigeria since 1999.

The presidential spokesman said there was no substantial evidence provided by the European Union or any foreign and local organisation that was ble enough to impeach the integrity of the 2023 election outcomes.

He said: “We strongly reject, in its entirety, any notion and idea from any organisation, group and individual remotely suggesting that the 2023 election was fraudulent.”

The Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign has raised alarm over alleged attempts to alter the February 25 presidential election results of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to satisfy sinister motives.

Manager of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign, Mr. Oseloka H. Obaze, subsequently, warned the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, against tempering with IRev as it concerns the FCT.

He said this in a tweet yesterday, Obaze said that intelligence reaching the Campaign office showed that INEC was trying to yield to pressure to tinker with the results of some states including the FCT to enable the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to be in good standing.

A statement from the Obi-Datti Media Office signed by its Head, Diran Onifade, quoted Obaze as saying, “According to our source, INEC is tempering with the machines used in the election to adjust FCT results to give the APC candidate, the much-needed 25%, which he did not get as per the initial INEC declaration and for which he is being challenged at the Presidential election tribunal.
