Subsidy removal: Look beyond current pains, First Lady appeals to Nigerians

According to THE NATIONS NEWSPAPER, First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, urged Nigerians to remain optimistic and focus on the bigger picture despite the current situation in the country. She expressed this during a meeting with the Wives of Service Chiefs and the Inspector General of Police.

The First Lady assured that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is implementing measures to mitigate the effects of the fuel subsidy removal, and she emphasized her Renewed Hope Initiative’s support for the government’s efforts. She also requested the assistance of the wives of the Service Chiefs in encouraging patience and resilience among women in various barracks during this difficult period.

First Lady said: “We will need your various Associations from time to time, at least to be able to reach out to women in your various barracks, to reassure them that we mean well for this country and that they should be patient and that whatever we can do to ameliorate what the subsidy has meted to us, we believe there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

“It is a greater Nigeria we are looking out for and it is a legacy that our children and generations yet unborn, we would leave a Nigeria we can relate better as Nigerians and also look for the good of this nation and the wealth of this country can be greater enhanced”, she said.

She also made a promise that the RHI would soon be reaching out to vulnerable widows of fallen officers in the military.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, who is the wife of the Chief of Defence Staff and President of the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association, Oghogho Musa, assured that the different associations within the Defence and Police Officers Wives group are ready to collaborate with the Renewed Hope Initiative in various areas such as agriculture, education, health, economic empowerment, and social investment.

She emphasized the importance of this partnership because these areas are of interest to all the Associations.

The First lady was then appointed as the Grand Matron of the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association, as stated in the constitution of the different associations.
