PEPT: Stop wasting your time in court – PDP chieftain to Atiku

According to Daily Post, Lere Olayinka, a prominent figure within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) based in Ekiti State, has put forth a compelling suggestion to Atiku Abubakar, the party’s Presidential candidate. Olayinka advocates for Abubakar to gracefully step aside and allow the emergence of younger, dynamic leaders within the PDP.

Highlighting his role as the main opposition candidate for Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 2 during the previous National Assembly election, Olayinka expressed his view that the opposition should shoulder the responsibility for their loss to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the presidential election. He emphasized these sentiments during appearances on TVC and Silverbird Television.

Olayinka’s remarks were prompted by the verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal affirming Bola Tinubu’s victory in the previous election. He argued that contesting an election outcome in court, which the PDP should have ostensibly won, is an exercise in futility.

He raised pertinent questions about the practicality of proving electoral malpractices across a staggering 176,000 polling units. Olayinka astutely pointed out the logistical challenges of producing witnesses for each of the alleged irregularities in numerous polling units, illustrating the impracticality of such a pursuit.

In light of these considerations, Olayinka urged a more proactive approach. Rather than expending valuable time and resources in a protracted legal battle, he advocates for a strategic focus on winning elections within the bounds of the law. He further critiqued a strategy that sacrificed five governors in favor of a single National Chairman, which, in his view, contributed to the ultimate failure.

In conclusion, Olayinka’s viewpoint underscores the importance of strategic planning and the grooming of younger leaders within the PDP as the party looks ahead to the 2027 elections. This shift in focus, he believes, holds the key to future success, ultimately ensuring a more robust and competitive political landscape.
