“Chelsea Football Club is delighted to welcome Graham Potter as our new Head Coach, joining us on a five-year contract to bring his progressive football and innovative coaching to the Club,” part of the statement read.

Potter has had a good start to the season as Brighton’s manager with the Seagulls currently fourth on the 2022/2023 Premier League table having lost only one match in the five games already played.

Potter led Brighton in achieving the club’s highest-ever league finish during their 2021/2022 campaign.

After completing his move to Stamford Bridge, Potter expressed his excitement to be Chelsea’s manager under the new club’s ownership group.

‘I am incredibly proud and excited to represent Chelsea FC, this fantastic football club. I am very excited to partner with Chelsea’s new ownership group and look forward to meeting and working with the exciting group of players and developing a team and culture that our amazing fans can be proud of,” Potter stated.

The English manager also thanked his former team for the opportunity he had to lead the team and the support he was accorded during his time with the Seagulls.

Todd Boehly described Potter as a proven coach and an innovator in the Premier League and he fits Chelsea’s vision.

“He has had a major impact at his previous Clubs’ and we look forward to his positive impact at Chelsea. We look forward to supporting him, his coaching team and the squad in realizing their full potential in the coming months and years,” Todd Boehly noted.

Potter emerged as the best option over Mauricio Pochettino, Ruben Amorim and Zinedine Zidane, who were reported to be on Chelsea’s radar.

He replaces Thomas Tuchel who was fired by Chelsea on Wednesday, September 7, after losing 1-0 to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.
