Bola Tinubu Reacts to the Military Coup in Gabon, Says he is Communicating with AU About the Issue.

Nigeria president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the decision of Gabonese military officers to overthrow their government, as he revealed that he is discussing with the other heads of state in the African Union (AU) on the actions that should be taken with regards to such coup.

Recall that Gabonese military officers had few hours ago, announced that they have taken over the government of Gabon and they have scrapped the election results that handed power to Gabon President, Ali Bongo Ondimba.

According to the officers, they have placed President Ali Bongo Ondimba under house arrest and his family members and doctors are looking after him while his son has been arrested for treason.

And so following such military coup, president Bola Ahmed Tinubu through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale stated that the rule of law and a faithful recourse to the constitutional resolution of electoral disputes must not be allowed to perish in Africa.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu went ahead to state that he believes that power belongs in the hands of Africans and not in the barrel of a loaded gun, adding that he is watching the developments in Gabon very closely and he is concerned for the African country’s sociopolitical stability and autocratic transmission that is now spreading across the African continent.

According to Channels TV, Ajuri Ngelale announced that;

“The president is working very closely and communicating with other heads of states in the African Union towards a comprehensive consensus on the next step forward with respect to how the crisis in Gabon will play out into how the African continent will respond to the transmission of autocracy we are seeing spread across our continent.”
