Oyo State Gov Warns Past Appointees to Return Official Cars

In a recent development, the Oyo state government has put forth a directive for all political appointees who served during Governor Seyi Makinde’s first tenure. The directive states that they are required to return all official vehicles assigned to them by Friday, August 25, 2023.

According to the Nation paper, this announcement was made through a circular letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, on Friday, August 18.

However, it should be noted that certain individuals are exempt from this directive.

This includes the governor, speaker, deputy governor, Chief Judge of the State, members of the House of Assembly, judges, Chief of Staff, Secretary to the State Government, Head of Service, Permanent Secretaries, Commissioners, Accountant-General, Surveyor-General, and Auditors-General.

Furthermore, the circular mentions that there is another category of people who are exempt from this directive. These individuals are those who have been gifted vehicles at the discretion of the governor.

Those officials who have valid documentary evidence to support the claim of receiving such a gift should present it to schedule officers at their respective ministries, departments, and agencies.

The circular strongly urges individuals who are still in possession of official vehicles without proper authorization to return them by Friday, August 25, 2023.

It emphasizes that schedule officers in the State Civil Service MDAs have been given the responsibility to recover any official vehicles that have been taken away without due authorization if these vehicles are not returned within the specified deadline.
