Benzema overtakes Arsenal legend to set a new club football record in Real Madrid 2-1 comeback win

Spanish La Liga Santander giant, Real Madrid forward maestro Karim Benzema was in action on Sunday night for the Los Blancos in their 14th league game of the season against Sevilla at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

The former Olympique Lyonnaise football club of France star retained his spot in his team’s starting XI having established himself as a key figure in the squad paraded by Carlo Ancelloti, following his outstanding performance for the club in their previous game.

The Frenchman was at top notch in the whole 90 minutes duration of the game and as such played significant roles in his team’s remarkable two goals to one comeback victory of the night to extend their stay at the top of the table.

The first half of the game was such a balanced one between the two sides as there was nothing separating them at the break which ended 1-1.

The host trailed from behind in the 12th minute with a goal from Rafa Mir who gave the visitor the lead to make it one nil before Karim Benzema put his side back into the game, with an equaliser in the 32nd minute to make it one all draw going into the half time break.

The tempo of the game got more intensed in the second half as they both put up some physical, tactical and technical displays but now was able to found the back of the net until the 87th minute when the host were able to get a deserving lead courtesy of a goal from Vinicius Junior to make it two goals to one.

After every other attempts from both sides to add more to the tally of the night, all were not successful as it ended two goals to one at full time.

Karim Benzema with his only goal in the show of the night has now overtaken Thierry Henry as the highest scoring French player in club football history with 361 goals.

The Frenchman has now scored a total of 103 goals in 165 games since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo which was a great improvement as against the 76 goals scored in his most recent 165 games played prior to the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The win for Real Madrid has now taken them to the top of the table with 33 points in 14 games played and as such be hoping to keep the winning streaks going in their next fixture, so as to continue their pursuit in the competition.

Karim Benzema will also be looking forward to continuing his goal scoring form for the Los Blancos in their next game so as to keep his tally going.
