In response to questions about the controversy surrounding his comments regarding the Yoruba during electioneering campaigns, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu stated, “The Igbo people have consistently upheld the constitution of Nigeria wherever they reside. They seek happiness and have never encroached on someone else’s land. The Igbo community recognizes that any place they go belongs to someone else. In Lagos, for example, if they wish to develop, they would prefer to purchase the land.”

He went on to say, “Let us consider the implications of the absence of Igbo and other tribes in the development of Lagos. The city’s progress and growth are contingent on the tolerance displayed by the Igbo community. It is crucial for the indigenous people of Lagos to bear in mind that outsiders, including the Igbo, have played a significant role in the development of the city.”
