Reactions After Shehu Sani Pleaded With Nigerians To Stop Soliciting For A Coup

As you may already be aware, the president of the neighboring Niger Republic, Mohammed Bazoum, was overthrown by some members of the presidential guard in a coup. As pressure is applied to the coupists to hand over control and restore democracy to the country, this move has heightened tensions in the West African subregion.

There are many responses over a tweet wrote by the Former senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Shehu Sani, has pleaded with Nigerians to refrain from lobbying for the same thing to occur there. In a message posted to his social media profile, he made this appeal. He contends that despite Nigeria’s democracy’s flaws, it is still redeemable.

“Stop soliciting for a coup in Nigeria,” he wrote. “Our democracy can still be redeemed. The struggle for a just, equitable and more prosperous society can still be won within the context of democracy.”
