INEC Provided Guideline But That Does Not Make INEC's Guideline To Be Superior To Electoral Act – Yabagi Sani

A former Presidential Candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) and the party’s National Chairman, Yabagi Sani, has insinuated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), should not be faulted for not transmitting the results of the February 25, 2023 Presidential election electronically; after he maintained that even though the Electoral Commission was given the power to make guidelines for elections, its guidelines are not superior to the Electoral Act.

Yabagi Sani had said, “INEC provided these guidelines but that does not make the guidelines of INEC to be superior to the letter of the Electoral Act.”

The Chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), who spoke during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, insisted that INEC did performed during the conduct of the February 25, 2023 Presidential election, and should be commended. He said even though the performance of INEC did not meet the expectations of Nigerians, there is a need to understand that the Electoral Body is operating under the provisions of the Electoral Act.

Yabagi Sani went further to say that the guidelines of INEC could be subdued by the Electoral Act, hence, the Electoral Commission should not be completely faulted for the outcome of the contest.
