I'm Not Aware Of Any Plot To Impeach Shaibu, I've Checked And There Was No Such Plan- Godwin Obaseki

In a press briefing held in Benin City during a visit by Edo North Leaders on Monday, Edo state governor Godwin Obaseki addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding his deputy governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu.

The governor as reported by PUNCH, expressed his surprise and disappointment at the court action taken by the deputy governor, denying any prior knowledge of an alleged plot to impeach Shaibu.

“I am not aware of any plot or any scheme to impeach the Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu. I’ve checked and there was no such plan,” Governor Obaseki stated emphatically.

The Edo state governor went on to express his shock at the court action taken by someone he had entrusted with significant responsibilities in his role as deputy governor. Governor Obaseki said he had given Shaibu considerable autonomy to carry out his duties effectively. Therefore, his decision to take legal action was quite shocking to him.

“I am trying to reflect on the move made by someone that I have given a broad latitude to do his work as deputy governor. So, for him to take this kind of action is shocking.” He added.

Recall that on Friday, a Federal High Court in Abuja issued an order stopping Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, and the state House of Assembly from initiating any supposed impeachment actions against Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu. This decision comes after Shaibu formally filed a motion on notice and motion ex parte, seeking the court’s involvement to put a stop to the reported impeachment procedure.
