Bashir Ahmad reacts as media outlets claim ECOWAS, Tinubu want to use military intervention in Niger

According to a news that was published by the Punch paper online this evening, it was reported that the West African heads of state, today said that all options, including the use of force remained on the table, in order to restore constitutional order in Niger Republic after the July 26th coup, as the community ordered the activation of its standby force.

It was reported that the remarks came as the 15-member Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), met in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja on Thursday, for an emergency summit to discuss a responses to last month’s military takeover in Niger Republic, after the coup leaders defied their earlier threat to use force to restore democracy.

However, while Bashir Ahmad, who happens to be the Special Assistant on Digital Communications to former president Muhammadu Buhari, was reacting to this claim on his official Twitter handle this evening, he said that some people and some media outlets have been driving the public into believing that ECOWAS wants to use military force against Niger Republic in order to restore democracy back in the country.

He said, “Following the recent pronouncement on the next line of actions to be taken by the ECOWAS in Niger Republic, some people, including many of our media outlets, are busy driving the general public into a conclusion that Nigeria and ECOWAS resolved to use military intervention in the undoubtedly our most important neighbor. Very bad!”

Further talking, Bashir Ahmad said, “We should be aware that war entails complex factors, as seen recently in Sudan and the Russia-Ukraine tensions. Let’s also learn from history, like America’s prolonged conflicts in the Middle East.”

Peace prevails!
