Ledesma was then seen throwing medical equipment from the Cadiz bench into the crowd in an effort to aid the stricken supporter and players were seen praying on the pitch as the desperate scene unfolded.

Medics from both teams quickly rushed over to help before players were eventually sent back to the dressing room

Around 20 minutes after play was halted, match officials lifted a pitch-side stretcher into the stands to help the stricken fan, who is believed to be an elderly individual – though that remains unconfirmed.

Prior to the incident, Barcelona had established a two-goal lead thanks to goals from Frenkie de Jong and Robert Lewandowski.

Seconds before the medical emergency, former Chelsea defender had been brought on as a substitute to make his Barcelona debut.
