Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, has assembled a team of investigators to work on the case. This incident seems to be part of a recent trend, as a similar armed robbery occurred during a church service in KwaZulu-Natal the previous month. During the robbery, which was captured on a live stream, five armed men stormed the church on Spring Road in Tea Estate. They held up congregation members and made off with valuables and three vehicles. Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) recovered an abandoned maroon Toyota Corolla in KwaZulu-Natal.

The incidents raise concerns about the emergence of a new crime trend involving armed robberies at churches. As investigations continue, law enforcement authorities are likely to address security measures for religious institutions to prevent such incidents in the future.
