Peter Obi, LP kicks as Tinubu offer opposition governors new appointments

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, has expressed strong opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s offer of new appointments to state governors, including those from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and LP.

During a meeting of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) in Abuja on Tuesday night, NGF Chairman Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq revealed that Tinubu had requested the forum to nominate capable individuals to serve on the boards and parastatals of Federal Government agencies that were dissolved last month.

Tinubu recently dissolved the governing boards of more than 153 agencies, parastatals, institutions, and government-owned companies, resulting in over 2,000 vacant positions.

Governor Abdulrazaq, in a communique, stated that the forum members resolved to commend the President for providing an opportunity for governors to nominate board members from various political parties.

However, Yunusa Tanko, the Chief Spokesman for the Obi-Datti Campaign Council, dismissed the move as a “ploy” to entice opposition governments and leaders into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tanko maintained that such a strategy “will not alter the fact that Tinubu’s presidency is an illegitimate government.”

“The APC is resorting to every trick in the book to legitimize this government, but we have staunchly resisted their efforts. We will only act in accordance with the court’s decision and verdict.

“However, in our view, every move they make is an attempt to deceive people into believing and legitimizing their government. That is the truth of the matter,” he added.
