APC: I was annoyed when I saw a professor led Muslims to protest against Sanwo-Olu– Bode George

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has addressed the crisis currently affecting the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State. This crisis revolves around the rejection of commissioner nominees presented by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. One of the contentious issues has been the religious composition of the nominees.

During the interview with Nigerian Tribune paper, Chief Olabode George expressed his dismay over the situation, particularly highlighting a protest led by a professor who mobilized Muslims against Governor Sanwo-Olu. George found it troubling that a religious leader would be involved in such a protest and emphasized that Lagos State was home to people of various faiths, including Christianity, Islam, and traditional beliefs, sometimes within the same family.

He shared a personal anecdote about his own family, mentioning his elder sister, who is an Alhaja (a respected Muslim woman). George emphasized that despite religious differences within families, people in Lagos State coexist peacefully and do not let religion divide them. He stressed the importance of personal faith as a private matter and emphasized that it should not hinder relationships or interactions with people of different religions. Chief Olabode George criticized the involvement of a religious leader in protests against the religious composition of the commissioner nominees, citing the longstanding tradition of religious tolerance and coexistence among Lagosians, regardless of their faiths.

“What got me totally angry was that, I saw a Professor leading Muslims to protest against Governor Sanwo-Olu. That was two days before. I do not know whether he is still serving, or he has retired. He led a league of Muslims to go and protest that on the list, the number of Christians that were there was higher than that of the Muslims. I said what! I do not know where that man comes from. In Lagos State, there is no family that you will not find the three religions, Christianity, Islam, and the traditionalist, in the same family.”
