Ambode Storms Aso Rock Two Weeks After Reuniting With Tinubu

Former Lagos State governor, Akinwumi Ambode, stormed Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday. The immediate past governor of Lagos State met with President Bola Tinubu, but the outcome of the meeting was not known as Ambode did not address the media after the meeting.

Ambode, Sanwo-Olu, and Babatunde Raji Fashola, a former works minister and another former governor, were reportedly among the dignitaries who invited Tinubu to a reception in Lagos two weeks ago. It was a noteworthy occasion that brought together the foursome of Tinubu, Fashola, Ambode, and Sanwo-Olu, who had alternately held the office of governor of the state with Sanwo-Olu at the helm.

Ambode had a falling out with the party’s leadership after they refused to give him the nomination for a second term; this opened the door for Sanwo-Olu to become the party’s flag bearer in 2018 and afterward the governor. Ambode had split from the APC leadership in the wake of the 2019 election campaign because he refused to take part in any of the party’s local operations.

As an alternative, his supporters held parallel congresses to elect party executives at the ward, municipal, and state levels. The reunion efforts became public when Sanwo-Olu unexpectedly paid Ambode a visit during a company celebration of his 60th birthday.

Ambode then attended the reception for the former governor who is now the president after that. I’m pleased to see Ambode, Tinubu said at the occasion. I’m grateful, Akin. According to rumours, if a sitting senator enters Tinubu’s administration, Ambode might be given consideration for a cabinet position or an APC ticket.
